Eczema

What it is

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes dry, itchy and irritated skin.

What it looks like

Affected areas appear red, violaceous, scaly and may develop small fluid-filled bumps or fissures. Eczema may occur anywhere on the face and body.

Treatment

Use gentle, fragrance-free moisturisers and cleansers. Steroid creams, antihistamines and, in severe cases, immunosuppressants may be prescribed for flare-ups. Avoid potential triggers such as harsh soaps and exfoliants.
