What Are Lumps and Bumps?

Lumps and bumps are the first signs of skin abnormalities that can occur on the surface of the skin or within deeper skin layers. These are primarily benign lesions that can occur anywhere on the body or face, and may be removed for medical or cosmetic reasons.

Benign skin lumps and bumps include:

  • Angiomas
  • Cysts
  • Dermatofibromas
  • Keratoses
  • Lipomas
  • Skin tags
  • Warts (verruca)

A new, changing or symptomatic lump or bump may occasionally be a sign of a more serious skin condition and should always be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

Treatment of skin lumps and bumps may include:

  • Cryotherapy
  • Electrodessication (cauterising with a heated needle)
  • Skin biopsy
  • Excision removal
  • Broadband Light (BBL)
  • Laser therapies
