What is Acne?

Acne is a very common condition caused by congestion and inflammation of the oil-producing glands in the skin predominantly on the face, chest and back. It can appear anywhere on the body, though. Acne may be characterised by comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), and/or inflamed papules, pustules and nodules.

Depending on severity, acne has the potential to scar and may have a lasting impact on emotional wellbeing and quality of life. Seeking treatment for acne earlier rather than later can help to minimise the potential for long-term scarring.
